RUNNING A BUSINESS IN A PANDEMIC

One is never fully prepared for the ups and downs of business.

You don’t go into business with stability and certainty. Entrepreneurs chase the thrill that comes with running a business. No problem is too hard or too painful, it's all part of this crazy game we call empire building.

Does this apply with COVID? No business is ever safe from extinction; this is the reality. We are all one bad move from elimination. The fight is this; be always one step ahead!

When COVID first started to present itself around the world it was an opportunity for businesses to completely pivot and quickly innovate.

For us at BODA we saw that salons around the world were closing and soon that would be our reality.

Before I allowed fear to kick in I asked myself, how can I service my clients if we have no human interaction? I know if we are in lockdown for months, women would turn to cheap supermarket colours to do their hair and I was not ok with that.

With all this in mind I came up with home colouring kits. Within a day I created a whole new business model that allowed professional colour to be mixed by our team; and a zoom session with a stylist to ensure our clients applied it the correct way. We have sold close to 1,000 kits! Enabling us to provide not just beautiful hair but also continued employment for members of our team.

Whether we are ready or not, issues and external circumstances will affect our business. As business owners, we need to be ready to work harder in the hard times so always have some strategies ready to go. Do you have a business plan? Have you got some strategies for any threats that might affect your business?

Below I have put together a simple template that will help you better understand where you are in your business and where you want to go :)

Running a business in a pandemic calls for a lot of thinking and evaluation. Spend this time cultivating your brand and what post pandemic will look like because, we won’t be in this climate forever.

Remember to find the problem, innovate, use clever marketing and sell!
